3 Things To Do If You Wake Up in Jail

Admin - September 16, 2019 - 0 comments

It can hit you as if you were the star in a movie. You open your eyes and find yourself in an unfamiliar place, in unusual clothing, on a very hard bed. Once you become more cognizant, you find yourself in a jail cell – but you don’t know how you got there. The last thing you remember was sitting down at the bar with your friends. So, what do you do now? Here are three things to do if you wake up in jail.

Stay Calm and Silent

Screaming out that you don’t belong there or that you want your lawyer will only bring negative attention down onto your head. Instead, stay calm and stay silent and assess your situation. Close your eyes and try to remember whatever you can from the proceeding evening. Remember who you were with, what you did, who you sat with, and where you went.

Locate Your Friends

If you can see inside the other cells, look to see if you know any of the people and if your friends are there. If they are, ask them what they remember from the prior evening, and urge them to stay calm and silent.

Contact an Attorney

If questioned, simply ask for an attorney. You can also give your name and current address to the officer – but refrain from providing any other information about the situation. The officer may also ask you about your height, weight, and birthday, and you should be honest about answering each of these questions.

Purchase a Bond

Once you can speak to your attorney or a family member, have them contact a bondsman Scranton PA, to get you released from jail as soon as possible.

Once you are free, contact your attorney again and try to put the puzzle together of what happened the night before your arrest. Above all, don’t put anything about the event on social media until your attorney approves of the comment. You never know who is looking for you!
